Krav Maga

Krav Maga, means "contact fight" in Hebrew, is the official system of self-defense and hand-to-hand combat of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the Israel National Police and other security services. Krav Maga is also taught extensively in state schools and educational centers of the Israel Ministry of Education.

Krav Maga was created by the late Imi Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld), who developed the system during his remarkable military career as a Chief instructor of Hand-to-Hand Combat with the IDF. During his service, Imi wrote the army´s official self-defense and hand-to-hand combat manual. In 1964 he left military, though continued to supervise the instruction of Krav Maga in both military and law-enforcement institutions, and in addition, kept working hard on refining, improving and adapting Krav Maga to meet civilian needs.

Krav Maga is a modern, practical and proven system of self-defense, carefully devised for the needs of presentday dangerous and unstable world. It is characterized by a clear and logical approach to self-defense and fighting confrontations, which enables one to achieve a relatively high proficiency within a short period of time.

Krav Maga was thoroughly developed to be diversified, and thus is applicable to the military, law-enforcement agencies, and civilian needs as well.

The system has consistently earned the praise of experienced fighters, Martial Arts experts, and military and police officers for its highly practical applications. It also appeals to beginners because of its simple, no-nonsense and realistic approach to personal safety. In fact, Krav Maga is the ideal self-defense method for men, women, young and elderly people of all ages and physical abilities.

There are several Krav Maga organizations in the world. The biggest and the most powerful one is International Krav Maga Federation (I. K. M. F.). It has International branches in many countries in Europe, South and North America, Australia, New Zealand and East Asia as well. I. K. M. F. president, directorand head instructor is Mr. Eyal Yanilov from Netanya, Israel. He is closest disciple of late Imi Lichtenfeld and now is the person, who is in charge of Krav Maga International promotion.

Krav Maga in Russia and St. Petersburg

4 years ago a small group of enthusiasts from St. Petersburg, Russia started to learn Krav Maga and joined International Krav Maga family, after a warm welcome from Mr.Eyal Yanilov. During the years of 2001 - 2005 Russian experts visited several times I. K. M. F. seminars in Finland, Poland, Israel and in China. Group of high rank Krav Maga experts presented art of Krav Maga self-defense system to St. Petersburg audience in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. In 2004 - 2005 Krav-Maga seminars took place in Moscow and Novosibirsk.

In 2002 the first official Krav Maga organization was established in Russia: "St.Petersburg Krav Maga Center". The first Russian candidate was attested as I.K.M.F. "Instructor Assistant" (Level G-1 according to I. K. M. F. standards). Now "St. Petersburg Krav Maga Center" provides training in two places in St. Petersburg. More then 70 students have a great chance to master their self-defense skills and to learn a new martial arts system, which was absolutely unknown in Russia just a few years ago. They learn under the instruction of Dr. Stanislav Leykin (IKMF self-defense instructor, G-2 level) - official representative of I. K. M. F. and Mr. Eyal Yanilov in Russia and Col. Nikolay Savuk, a well-known Russian expert in self-defense (Combative Sambo) and hand-to-hand combat.
